NNI students come from many backgrounds. Some are
business professionals looking for a career change. Others
are fresh out of high school. Northwest Nannies Institute
offers all of its students a “great next step” to an
exciting and rewarding career path. It also offers them the
opportunity to meet other men and women from across the
country who share their passion for children. Although their
ages, backgrounds and interests are varied, NNI students
forge strong bonds and friendships that last a lifetime.
Students typically spend about 10 hours a week in
homework and studying outside of the classroom. They work on
group projects and help one another in a cooperative and
family like atmosphere. Also supporting this friendly
atmosphere, instructors work with the students’ different
learning styles and monitor them closely. Individual
counseling is available when needed. Although the coursework
is sometimes rigorous, because of the serious and important
nature of the profession, there is still lots of time for
fun and recreation.
The NNI campus is located in beautiful Lake Oswego,
Oregon, where we offer the best of all worlds – a small town
atmosphere only minutes away from Portland. NNI draws on the
resources of this cosmopolitan city where fine restaurants,
the arts and entertainment abound. The great outdoors are as
close as Portland’s Forest Park – the nation’s largest
forested municipal park within a city’s limits in the United
States. And we are just an hour from both the ski slopes of
Mt. Hood, the extraordinary Columbia River gorge area, one
of Oregon’s most scenic areas and the spectacular Oregon
Coast.
Housing
The most popular housing option available for students
coming from outside of the Portland metropolitan area at
Northwest Nannies Institute is the HOST Family Program.
Students interested in this program interview with families
who provide room and board in exchange for childcare. All
HOST families have been carefully screened. The HOST program
offers students an opportunity to practice new skills as a
nanny, as well as helping defer overall housing costs
significantly.
For those who wish to live on their own, Lake Oswego and
the surrounding Portland metropolitan area offer many
diverse neighborhoods in which to live. The NNI admissions
office can help with housing assistance for out-of-town
students. Shared apartments, studios and boarding houses are
some options available. Portland has a well developed public
transportation system. The MAX trains, trolleys and busses
allow students to see the northwest at its finest. And
Northwest Nannies is less than one block from the bus line.
No one needs a car but for those with one, we are
conveniently located and not far from major freeways. Free
parking is on the campus.
What Our Grads Have To Say

When I first called the admissions office, they
didn’t know me from Adam. But they were so nice to
me and answered all of my questions. Someone met me
at the train station when I arrived and took me to
lunch. I was made to feel welcomed from the very
beginning. |

The instructors always take the time to talk with me. I
even have each of their home telephone numbers. You just
don’t find that kind of caring at a big school. |

With all of my prior childcare experience, I thought I
knew everything there was to know about raising children.
Boy was I wrong. NNI made me a professional. I can’t thank
them enough. They changed my life. |

The level of commitment from the Institute was
incredible. Even after graduation, if I had a question I
could call and talk to them. The friends I made at NNI have
lasted for years and have been some of the best friendships
of my life. It was a great experience. |
